Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 6

DAY 8 OF 22

When it comes to the Holy Spirit, many people have many questions. To some, He is the most foreign of the Trinity. In modern language, we will hear people say, “I am not sure if what I have heard about the Holy Spirit is even right.” Today is a good time to ask the question, do I know the Holy Spirit? I love the way Jesus speaks about the Holy Spirit in John 14 when He says, “I will give you another Comforter.” The word comforter is the Greek word: “Parakletos." The Greeks used this word in the following context:

- A favorable witness in a court case

- A good advocate to defend your case

- A councilor who gives accurate advice

This is the way He comforts us and we experience His love practically. He is the favorable witness to my character; He advocates for me when the accuser blames me for everything that he can; He gives me the right advice when I need it most. He is a good guide to my life. Think of it like this: If I were to drop you off on a deserted island and I gave you the following options to navigate your way through the island, which would you choose? The choices are a map, a compass, or a personal guide who knows the island very well. Most people would opt for a personal guide, in my opinion. Why? Because he is all in one! He is the map, the compass and, of course, the guide. And best of all, he is present!

Like an uncharted island, your life is uncharted. Nobody has ever lived your life and that is why we need the Holy Spirit. He leads us in all aspects of life while reminding us of everything Jesus has told us. Have you experienced the work of the Holy Spirit in your life?
