Her True Worth: A 5-Day Plan

DAY 5 OF 5

As for Satan, he knows our names, but he would rather degrade us by calling us by our sin and weaknesses. He does this so we will take on that label and identify with it.

• “You’ve got anger issues, and nobody will ever feel peace around you.”

• “You’re a person who says one thing and does another.”

• “You’re unreliable.”

• “You’re a liar.”

• “You’re a glutton and can’t control yourself around food.”

• “All you do is gossip; you’ll never get it right.”

The list goes on and on, because Satan is the accuser. He will always label you by your sin to get you to think less of yourself. He sees you off track, and he wants to keep you there. He doesn’t want you to identify as what God says you are in Christ and course correct. He also wants you to continue to relive and rehash your past to keep you in a state of captivity.

This tactic the Enemy uses is effective, because it gets our focus on our sin and not on our Savior. And if our focus is not on our Savior, then we won’t be compelled to turn away from our sin.

When the Enemy reminds you of your past, remember this verse: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Forgive and purify. That’s a promise, and you can bank on it. We can trust God; he is faithful, and he will fulfill his promise. So if the Enemy tries to remind you, respond with “Forgiven and purified. Bye!” . . .

Now imagine Jesus saying your name. I don’t know about you, but I get a feeling of security and comfort knowing that he knows me, sees me, and cares to speak to me. There is something about being known—truly known and truly loved. This makes me want to be back on the road pursuing Jesus. I want to run toward that kind of love. . . .

Friend, Jesus calls you by name because he loves you, he chose you, he wants you, and he accepts you. He doesn’t call you by your sin because he is love, and his love for you covers over a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

Prayer

Lord, I am so grateful that you know me, love me, and chose me. Please help me to discern your voice from that of the Enemy, and help me to show your love to those around me. Amen.
