You Are Called to be a Saint

DAY 1 OF 15

All Christians are called to be saints

“To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints…” (Romans 1:7)

The New Testament letters regularly call their congregations’ saints’ or ‘holy people.’ Only a few present-day Christians would describe themselves like this. We might rather talk about ourselves as ‘believers,’ ‘followers of Jesus’, or ‘God’s people.’ That’s fine since these phrases are 100% biblical and reveal some essential characteristics of Christians. We believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, accept His authority over our lives, and are ready to be His disciples.

However, the word ‘saint’ can also help us understand some important lessons. This word is not reserved for some rare, extraordinarily pious people who withdraw themselves from the world to devote their lives completely to the Lord but applies to “all who God loves.” Everyone who loves God because God first loved them is called to be a saint. It’s not optional but essential for being a Christian (see Hebrews 12:14).

The Greek word translated as ‘saint’ literally means: to be different or set apart, to be holy. If you belong to the Lord, this sets you apart from unbelievers. You are different from ‘the world.’ Your life should reflect your position as a chosen and beloved child of God.

Over the coming days, please read with us to discover more about what it means to be a saint!

Day 2

About this Plan

You Are Called to be a Saint

Being a Christian means that you belong to Jesus Christ and are called to live a holy life devoted to His glory; in other words, to be a saint. This has an enormous impact on your life. It changes your position towards God and towards other people, and it has consequences for your choices. Becoming a saint is not optional. It is the calling of every believer.
