Come to the TableSample
1 Corinthians 11: 26, For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
What are some of the things we can proclaim about what Jesus’ death on the cross has done for us?
We can proclaim and rejoice in the fact that we have been reconciled to the Father through Jesus' blood.
We can proclaim and rejoice in the fact that we are free from condemnation. Our guilt has been taken away.
We can proclaim and rejoice in the fact that His blood brings healing to my body, mind and soul.
We can proclaim and rejoice in the fact that we belong to Jesus – I am His and He is mine and His banner over me is love.
We can proclaim and rejoice in the fact that we belong to a new family.
We can proclaim and rejoice in the fact that one day we will Jesus face to face.
Jesus invites us to His table to commune with Him in an intimate loving fellowship. At His table are seated many others like you and me, and that is why we celebrate Communion in the community.
One day we will be seated at another table: a huge banquet table for the marriage feast of the Lamb of God. We will be seated there as His bride, and we will be with Him forever.
Let us never take this table for granted or treat it lightly. It cost Jesus everything to give us a seat at the table. Let us partake of His table in a manner that honours our wonderful Saviour.
To end this devotion let us reflect in 4 ways:
Reflect backwards – Remember with gratitude what Jesus has done to set you free, to make you a new creation and a child of God.
Reflect forward – Give thanks that one day you will be with Jesus and be seated at His table at His banquet.
Reflect inward – Re-adjust your heart to always be grateful and thankful for the cross. Never be casual about the communion table. It cost Jesus everything.
Reflect together – Look around and give thanks for the family of God that you are now a part of. And if you have any unresolved issues with a brother or sister in your church community, then go and set it right.
My prayer is that each time you come to the Lord’s table you will remember, reflect and rejoice in one of these truths that will draw you deeper into the heart of God.
