How to maintain a solid marriage

DAY 5 OF 7

Investing in personal development

Marriage doesn’t mean that you don’t continue to grow, that you can’t continue to develop in different aspects of your personal life.

Some people think that the ultimate goal of their lives is to get married and that once they get married, everything stops there. All dreams and visions are truncated as if life were over and there were no more opportunities for development. To have a good marriage, we must understand several issues in this regard.

In a marriage, each spouse has different assignments and desires. Therefore, it is essential to grow spiritually to achieve these goals. This development also has to do with the ability to thrive in emotional skills and character, so as to be a reflection or expression of Christ in us. Undoubtedly, when we express Christ through our character, our marriage relationship will improve, which leads to an improvement in the quality of life.

It is necessary to invest every day in personal development, learn new things, and develop professionally. If a couple decides to have the wife or husband take care of the house, this is not an impediment for them to grow: they can learn how to cook, learn a new language, take online courses, and so much more. There is inner transformation, and the person explores new ways of expressing and acting, resulting in the enrichment of the spousal relationship.

We can start by setting reachable goals. These goals can be short, medium, and long term; it is essential to talk and communicate effectively about them with our partner. Schedule the actions you will take. Remember that God is a God of order: we come from a design of order. This individual realization will bear fruit to benefit you as a couple.

We complement each other without forgetting that, in marriage, the head is Christ. As we grow in wisdom and knowledge, we mature and strengthen our bonds to age well together. With the illumination of the Word, the journey will be easier. We will avoid the obstacles that stop and delay us. Investing in personal development produces gain within the home; the couple can be fulfilled and at the same time be committed to the goal of fulfilling God's purpose.

Let us pray

Lord, I thank you for my partner's gifts and talents. Thank you for the assignment you have given each of us to be productive in work and spiritually. We are confident that your light will provide us with the understanding to be a solid marriage for life.
