Putting It on the Line

How carefully do you 'curate' your social media presence? How important is your reputation? Here, God makes a personal appearance with a lying, cheating runaway. It's almost as if God doesn't care so much who he associates with - an accusation Jesus heard more than once. God actually pins His plans for the future on this man of questionable character - what could this have done to his reputation?

Something to think about while you are reading today’s passage:

God reitterates the covenant promises given to Abraham that Jacob now carries. God makes Himself vulnerable, letting Jacob represent him in the world this way. If you were God's PR manager, would you have let this meeting happen, let alone approved the outcomes? What does this encounter say about 'righteousness' in God's eyes? Is it something we do or earn, or is it something God confers when we align ourselves with His purposes?
