Women of Worth

DAY 3 OF 8

Today, we will encounter the merciful and gracious Savior healing the unnamed woman with the issue of blood for twelve years. Let's take a journey into her story, and discover the tenderness of Jesus. We do not know what caused her medical condition; however, based on Judaic Law, this condition meant she wasn't allowed to enter Temple courts for religious ceremonies. According to the Law, anything or anyone she touched became unclean as well. I think we can all agree the human touch is a beautiful gift from God, a true blessing to humanity.

Imagine for a moment, having no physical contact for over a decade, being unable to feel the embrace of your loved ones. If she was married with children, she could not comfort and cradle her precious little ones in her arms or experience an adoring hug from her husband. The comprehension of this kind of profound loneliness sits so heavy on my heart. Twelve years is a long time. Imagine being cast aside and unwanted by society, having bankrupted yourself financially to find a cure, only to get worse. It's easy to grasp she spent those many years frightened and embarrassed. This woman had been socialized to think of herself as soiled, unclean, and unworthy. Her societal separation was worn like a banner of shame and hopelessness, but the glorious Great Physician did not view her as unclean, didn't find her unworthy of His healing touch.

We witness His boundless compassion for her suffering. In a sea of people vying for His attention, He turned to her and addressed her as "daughter" because He saw her intrinsic worth, her dignity, and her pursuing faith. She placed her hope in Him as the Great Physician. "He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering'." (Mark 5:34 NIV). He uses such a beautiful term of endearment. To be called a daughter by the Lamb of God was to be esteem by the Lord. He loves His daughters.

Reflection: What do these Scriptures reveal about the character of Christ?

Recognize: Based on these Scriptures, write a statement of Truth about the compassion Jesus has for you?

Respond: Today, allow your faith to make you whole, commune with the Great Physician to seek his healing in all areas, spiritual, physical, and emotional.
