The Listening Side of Prayerნიმუში

Day 1: Make Time & Space
Being intentional about listening to God is the only way we’re going to be able to hear from Him with any kind of consistency.
Sure, God definitely knows our address and He knows how to reach us when He needs to. I’ve accidentally bumped my head into the wall walking down the hallway before, and I felt like God used that pause to get my attention and knock some sense into me. So He’ll do what He must to help His kids, but that is not His preferred method of communicating. It’s far easier for us when we set time out each day just to be with Him.
Making time and space to be with God will be a bit different for each person depending on our personalities and life circumstances. Some people like to go for walks outside early in the morning before the sun comes up. Some people like to go spend time in their prayer closet somewhere in their home. Whatever that looks like for you is between you and God.
There are two common elements though that all our methods will share:
- God must be the primary focus, the time must be set apart for Him
- The space must be somewhere that enables you to focus on Him
If you want to start listening to God or listening more, what is a good time and place you can meet with Him each day? Write it down and hold yourself to it. If you stick with it eventually you won’t even have to hold yourself to it because you will be so dependent on Him that if you miss a day you will feel off!
If you feel like you are too busy, eliminate something from your schedule and make room. God should be the number 1 priority in your life.

About this Plan

When we pray, it’s far more important for us to hear what God has to say to us rather than what we want to say to Him. For most of us, prayer is too often a 1-way conversation. This devotional will explore ways we can better listen to what our Father is saying to us.
