My Hero: Healing From Wounds of a Father

DAY 5 OF 16

Day 5 - God’s Care

Earthly fathers can be abusive, but God is caring and loving at all times.

Sometimes we think of God like He’s waiting for us to make a mistake so he can pounce and punish us. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The Bible teaches us that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,”. So even when we deserved punishment, God held back. And more than holding back He rescued us. And more than rescuing us He gave up His Son to do it.

God is slow to anger and full of mercy, compassion, and grace for us. He cares for us as a shepherd cares for his sheep. Like people plotting out the best course for their lives, sheep often go astray. A good shepherd will herd the sheep back into the right path for safety and find green pasture.

That’s what God does with us. He’s never abusive. He will guide us back where we need to be, but He’ll do it with love. He cares so much about us that’s He’s willing to abandon all else just to find us.

Think about the ways God cares for you specifically. Write them down, as many as you can. Thank Him for each one and remember this list anytime you’re hurting from your earthly father’s abuse. God’s care for you triumphs over it.

About this Plan

My Hero: Healing From Wounds of a Father

Dads can be such important figures they seem almost larger than life, like superheroes. God gave us earthly fathers to be extensions of Him to provide protection, guidance, and love. When they don’t fulfill those expectations, it can cause deep wounding. This plan covers ways we can get healing from the wounds of a father.
