Crisis Converted Then:

God intimately knows the nature of people. He reminds the Israelites that he knows how stubborn they are. He won’t let their stubbornness stand. So, he predicts the things that are hidden from them so they can’t claim them as from their own knowledge. 

Why does he do this? Why does he rescue these stubborn people time and time again? It’s for his name’s sake. It's for God’s own glory. Because he gave the Israelites his name, he must redeem them so all will know he alone is glorious. 

Crisis Converted Now:

So often we believe that God did everything in his plan and purpose for us. It’s been said that when Jesus hung on the cross, he thought of each of us, or even, he went to the cross because of us. Surely, God's grace towards us is ultimately expressed in the crucifixion of Jesus. Indeed, in his crucifixion, Jesus asks that people will be forgiven and even promises life to the criminal crucified beside him. Yet, when Jesus hung upon the cross he did so for the glory of his Father. In fact, when headed towards his crucifixion, Jesus specifically says, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your son that your son may glorify you” (John 17:1). Jesus died for his Father's sake.
