Old Church Basement: Returning to Simple Worship

DAY 2 OF 12

JIREH

Jireh, You are enough

Jireh, You are enough

I will be content in every circumstance

Jireh, You are enough

In the Bible, God is described by many different names.

One of those is Jehovah-Jireh, which means “the Lord who provides,” or “the Lord will see to it.”

We first hear this name introduced in Genesis 22. God commands Abraham to take his son Isaac up a mountain to offer a burnt offering there.

The problem? There is no lamb to sacrifice. That's when Abraham receives instruction from God to sacrifice his long-awaited son.

Then, at the last moment, God stops Abraham and provides another sacrifice.

Why would God put Abraham through this? Why would He fulfill His promise of a son only to suggest He might take the blessing away?

Can you imagine the fear that Abraham must have felt? But God knew Abraham’s character, and He knew that he would follow in faith.

Because of everything else Abraham had seen God do, he knew if God took his son away, the Lord would still provide.

In the end, Abraham calls that place Jehovah-Jireh.

“And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah–Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.” ‬‬ - Genesis 22:14

For Abraham, Jireh represented the place of God's provision.

In that place, God had revealed Himself in a new way to Abraham. And today He does the same for us.

Even in your most difficult situations, God is still in control. The Lord is still good, and He will always provide for His people.

So what are you worried about today? What is God asking you to surrender and lay down?

We often say God is enough, but will you LIVE like you believe the Great I AM is enough?

"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” - Matthew 6:31-32

Rest on the promises of Scripture today. There is no problem too small and no issue in your life that is unimportant to God. He sees every need, every broken and hurting person. He knows, He sees, and He cares.

I AM is enough. God is all of it. He is in all of it, at all times.
