DAY 10 OF 12

Trust and Obey OR Doubt and Rebel

And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
Deuteronomy 28:1 (ESV)
But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.
Deuteronomy 28:15 (ESV)

Once upon a time, there were two farmers who were going through a period of terrible drought. They were at a place of discouragement. One farmer went ahead and plowed his fields, trusting God to send the rain. The other farmer thought “What is the use, planting time came and gone, still no rain.” The first farmer planted his seed, the other farmer mocked and made fun of him. The first farmer said, “God will send the rain”. A month went by, still no rain. But the first farmer kept his faith and trusted God for deliverance. The second month went by, still no rain. The second farmer now scorned the first farmer for wasting the seeds.

One morning the sky grew dark and the rain began to fall, bringing fresh life to the first farmer’s crop. He did the right thing and trusted God. The second farmer lost everything because of unbelief.

The above story is a good reminder. Sometimes in life, we face problems and adversity. If we trust and obey God’s Word, we will feast and not famine.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, we raise our hearts to You in gratitude for Your faithfulness and grace. Help us to keep the covenant relationship with You. We acknowledge our shortcomings and disobedience. Lord, put in our heart today the desire to be obedient rather than sacrificial. Give us a measure of faith to believe and trust Your Word which is a light to our path. We ask all these in Jesus’ name. Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy is the final heart-pouring sermon of the dying Moses to the second generation of the Israelites, retelling the salvation history of their forefathers and the ways of life through God’s words as they enter into the Promised Land. The book ends with Moses calling readers for a decision: curse and death by disobedience or blessing and life by loving the Lord. Likewise, which will you choose?
