Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

DAY 5 OF 14

Furtherance of the Gospel

The cross for each of us is God’s specific purpose for us, which is to reconcile a particular group of people back to Him.

Our purpose in life does not come out of understanding our call or our vocation or our fulfilment in life. Most of us spend our entire lives chasing our so called “dream”. Our purpose in life comes out of knowing the particular group for whom God has brought us into the world because He has endowed us with a meticulously planned bundle of competencies.

If I were a student, I would understand my calling is to reach out to my fellow students and reconcile them back to God. So, what do I do? I excel as a student, for there is no division between the sacred and the secular. We are always in the sacred zone. Whatever we do, we do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. My performance as a student ought to be of the highest standard, for Jesus, whom I represent, is higher than any other.

We are called to be always thankful. The world around us is full of complaints and grumbling. Whereas, when they see us as thankful people, even when injustice and unfairness is meted out to us, they are intrigued. These are God-given opportunities to reconcile people around us to God (Colossians 3:17, I Corinthians 10:31)

We work as unto the Lord and not unto men and God will give us the reward (Colossians 3:23-24). Remember, God uses even negative experiences as a means to further the gospel (Philippians 1:12-13)

Thought to ponder

What are you pursuing in life? Is it your own dream or are you seeking to reconcile people to God?
