Divine Interceptions

DAY 2 OF 7

"Prophesied Victory"

Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD and their punishment resulted in being sold into the hand of Jabin the king of Canaan. Jabin’s army commander, Sisera and his infantry severely tormented the Israelites for twenty years.  Although the Israelites were disobedient to God, God exhibited forgiveness, love, grace and mercy by setting up a divine interception to stop the cries of the Israelites in the midst of their oppression.

Deborah the prophetess and Judge of Israel during that time sent word to Barak of what God commanded him to do regarding the defeat of their enemy Sisera. Although Deborah told Barak the word of God, Barak declared that he would not go unless Deborah would go with him, resulting in a woman receiving honor for the defeat of Sisera.

So the fight was on, Barak pursued Sisera and Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael. Jael’s husband was Heber a Kenite and they were cordial towards Jabin the king.  Sisera attempted to use this relationship to his advantage as he approached Jael’s tent for refuge.

Although the Israelites’ enemy fled God came through with the divine interception that would confirm the prophesied victory Deborah proclaimed. Jael invited the fleeing Sisera into her tent, covered him with a rug and provided him with milk to drink. Due to his exhaustion Sisera fell asleep and Jael took a tent peg and a hammer and drove the peg through his temple into the ground.

God intercepted the plans of the enemy when Sisera thought he would seek refuge in a friend, when Sisera was an Israelite foe.  God comes through in divine interceptions. When things in our lives appear as if the enemy is getting away with the treacherous treatment of God’s children, God is able to use anyone even unlikely sources to intercede and carry out his plan of deliverance for us in any situation.

Sometimes God uses individuals we don’t expect and circumstances we couldn’t imagine to divinely intercept the enemy’s already failed tactics for our lives. God has all power and authority. We must place our faith and trust in God to divinely intercept for us. It is reassuring to know that when things seem hopeless in our lives, God has a game plan and is ready to divinely intercept on our behalf. Praise the LORD that God comes through in divine interceptions.
