The Gospel of Mark

DAY 2 OF 42

When we ask, “Who is Jesus?” we often answer by describing His perfection, purity, holiness, power, and compassion. He preached, taught, healed, and talked to many people every day. Jesus cared deeply for the people around Him. Jesus also knew that, in the midst of serving others, He needed to get away and spend time with His Father.

Jesus repeatedly took time to get away from the crowds, and even from His disciples. He intentionally left what could have given more recognition or more power to be alone with God. If Jesus desperately needed this time with God, we certainly need to guard and protect our time with Him, too.

As we answer the question, “Who is Jesus?” Mark allows a glimpse into the quieter moments in Jesus’ life. Despite having much to do and many to minister to, Jesus made time to get away and pray. Let’s imitate our Lord.

Lord, You are compassionate and kind. You healed and fed and talked with so many during Your time on earth, yet You knew the importance of getting away for quiet time with Your Father. Help me to imitate You in this way. In Your name, amen.

About this Plan

The Gospel of Mark

The Gospel of Mark is a powerful account of the life of Jesus. It displays the character of Jesus on every page, from His willingness to suffer and serve to His power and deity miraculously displayed. With every scene the author asks, “Where is your faith?” As we read and study the Gospel of Mark we can’t help but answer this important question.
