8 Days to Rethink Your Thinking (For Wives)

DAY 6 OF 8

Are your thoughts about your husband of GOOD REPUTE?

In some translations the word used here is “good report“. Are you thinking about the good report of your husband? When you stop and examine your actual thoughts about him do you spend more time thinking about the good reports of him or the bad reports of him?

Isn’t it easy to allow ourselves to dwell on the bad reports? It seems as though that is just human nature. The truth is worth being reiterated here. We get to choose our own thoughts.

So, what might happen if you chose to rehearse the good reports about your husband on a daily basis? For a few moments every day stop to remind yourself what is true and good about your husband. It will bring about serious changes in how you interact with him. Stop right now and ask yourself what is the last good report you have about your husband? It doesn’t have to be something someone actually reported to you about him. Often it's just what you have reported to yourself about him.

If you are struggling to think of a good report about your spouse, begin right now to report to yourself something good about him. Maybe you need a written report to submit to yourself. Challenge yourself to sit down and write a list of the good things about your husband. Begin to daily give yourself a good report about him. You can even go a step further and share a good report with him. I bet it will make his day.

This should be a daily practice. “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NASB1995) Take the time to take the negative reports about your husband captive and replace them with the truth of God’s word about him. It’s a scriptural directive and it is a life-giving practice for your marriage.

Choose today to write a good report about your husband. Read it to yourself and share it with him. Work to make this a daily practice.
