What Can You Do?

DAY 8 OF 10

Throughout the Bible, Jesus did a really good job of calling people out who claimed that they believed in something but acted in a completely different way. James, who was Jesus’ brother and one of His followers, did the same thing to the people around him, especially when it came to serving and showing others their faith in Jesus.

If we see someone who is in need, we are called to do something about it, not just see it and move on. Even if we acknowledge that there is a need but don’t try to take action to serve someone, our service is useless. When we see someone who we can serve, it might be easy to just feel bad for them or wish that someone would help, but we shouldn’t stop there. Instead, we are told to actually do something about it and try our best to actually serve them with whatever we have.

So, if you see a neighbor who is struggling to rake the leaves, don’t just walk by, offer to rake for them! Or if the dog is begging to go outside, don’t turn your music up louder and ignore him, offer to take him out so that your parents don’t have to. Don’t just wait for someone else to take action, serve by taking action yourself.

Challenge: Today we challenge you to take action when it comes to serving, not just think about it. Donate money or extra things that you have to a local charity or organization. Take action by serving today.

About this Plan

What Can You Do?

You may look at the problems around you and wonder, "What can I do?" Jesus calls us to see a need and meet that need. We are to serve others. Over the next 10 days, we'll take a look at what it means to serve and what that looks like.
