James: Faith in ActionSample
Choosing God Every Day
Every day we have to make choices. It might be something as simple as whether to eat cereal or toast for breakfast or something more important like picking your subjects for the year ahead. Whatever the case, making a choice means choosing one thing over another and deciding what's more important.
Our relationship with God is about making choices too. Think of your best friend, and imagine that most times they asked you for a favor you ignored them or put it off until later. Wouldn't be much of a friendship, would it? Yet this is how we treat God. He wants us to act in certain ways because He knows what's best for us, but we spend so much of our time doing the opposite. We make a choice to prioritize the things that we want instead of the things God wants.
Making a choice to follow God is not just a one-time thing: we have to continue to make it each day. Will you make the choice to follow God today?
Questions:
- Getting to know someone means spending time with them. Do you spend time with God? If not, how could you spend more time with Him?
- What could you do to make it easier to choose God over other things every day? Think about how you could start your day off with a focus on Him.
- Spending time with God doesn't just need to be done by yourself. Is there a friend or family member you could spend time praying with?
Prayer:
Lord, thank you so much that You love me every day. I'm sorry that I so often choose to do the things I want rather than what You want. Please help me to love You every day too by choosing to live the way You want me to. Amen.
