NKJV 365 Day Reading PlanSample
The Unity of the Couple, FAMILY.
“In the beginning” the Lord created the first couple in His image (1:1, 27) and described them as “one flesh.” Their unity was to be so complete, that the Hebrew word for “one” (’echad; “one, unit, or unity”) is the same word used to describe God in Deut. 6:4, “The LORD our God, the LORD is one!” It was not until the entrance of sin that their unity was broken (Gen. 3:12, 13), their relationship became contentious (vv. 15, 16), and they took on separate identities (v. 20). As believers in Christ Jesus, we are called to be conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29), as through Christ’s redemptive work we become “heirs together” of His grace (1 Pet. 3:7).
