DAY 4 OF 7

The Greatest Trade

Mary of Bethany made a great trade. She was not interested in what Jesus could give her. She approached Him ready to give to Him. She took the expensive perfume and poured it over His head. She was not greedy or stingy in pouring something so valuable on Him. Even the disciples were bothered by her actions.

The Bible says that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Where is your heart? Is your heart always questioning what you plan to receive from certain decisions? Or is your heart placed on giving? Judas had a consumer mindset; he wanted to get something out of his betrayal. Mary’s heart was ready to give. When we make the decision to have good trades, we are making the decision to be givers and not getters.

After Mary poured the perfume and Jesus saw that the disciples were bothered by what she did, He told them that wherever and whenever the Gospel would be preached, the story of what she had done would be told in memory of her. For all of eternity, at least for life on earth, she is going to be connected with the Gospel. What a great trade. A little jar of perfume and she makes a difference for all of eternity. Her name lives on.

Mary’s trade was absolutely incredible. Yet, Judas made a trade for 30 pieces of silver. Money will never satisfy you. Sin never satisfies. It is never enough. But you are never outside of the forgiveness of God. You can always come to Him and He will forgive you. Whether you have made a bad trade or a bad decision, you can always choose to turn around.

The greatest trade you can ever make is choosing Jesus. Nothing else will ever be enough. He is more than enough. He will fill you and give you everything you need. Life will not be perfect, but He will give you peace, comfort, love, and strength when you need it. He loves you so much and delights in your living a life that glorifies Him.
