DAY 9 OF 31

Caught

Rex Stump

Ready:

“And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.” 2 Peter 3:14

Set:

Has your coach ever disciplined you for skipping practice or missing an assignment in competition? While watching game film has your coach ever pointed out something that you did wrong?

When we make bad choices, we experience guilt, shame, and often look over our shoulders in fear of getting caught. It’s not a good feeling, especially if you don’t drive the speed limit and you see a cop sitting by the edge of the road. Many people believe that God is a cosmic cop, watching and waiting to catch us making a bad choice. Once we make a bad move, busted! What if God is watching, anticipating catching us doing something great?

Peter encouraged us in 2 Peter 3:14 to make every effort to be found! To be found! “Ha, caught you making peace!” “Caught you being pure!” Peter encourages us to be found or get caught doing what is right and holy!

At FCA camp we try to catch kids making great choices, and then we call them out at chapel. It’s fun and it actually increases the kid’s efforts in making great choices at camp. They want to get caught for doing what is right!

Your coach, teacher, or parent may not always see you or catch you when you do right. But God will. God is always watching. Make every effort to be found living peaceful lives, pure and blameless! Be found living a holy life!

Go:

1. What were you caught doing wrong by your coach or parent?

2. How did you feel getting caught doing something wrong?

3. How did you feel getting caught doing something good?

Workout:

  • Matthew 6:33
  • Psalm 14:2
  • Hebrews 11:6

Overtime:

“Heavenly Father, give me the strength to make every effort to be found living peaceful lives. Help me to be found living a pure and blameless life. Catch me doing good and remind me that this honors you!"
