DAY 25 OF 31

Want to Start a Prayer Pocket?

Mark Stephens

Ready:

“In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.” 1 Timothy 2:8

Set:

After a prayer meeting, Roger Franks challenged me to start a prayer pocket. I said, “What is a prayer pocket?” It was a term he used based on 1 Timothy 2:8, “In every place…” He was inspired by the Lord to get many groups of prayer (prayer pockets) going. So, in 2017 we started a weekly prayer pocket. As time has gone on, we now have seven prayer pockets in the Mid-Atlantic region praying for our global leaders in Southeast Asia. We have since defined a prayer pocket as 30 for 30. To gather for prayer every 30 days (monthly) for 30 minutes.

Why? This pleases the Lord that we would commune with Him and fellow believers. This is His strategy – to get more workers in the harvest based on Mathew 9:37-38. Prayer shows our dependence on God. My life without prayer shows dependence on me. I desire a life of dependence on Him.

Are you bold enough to start a prayer pocket with 2-3 from your team? Consider choosing a set time and location weekly during the season and maybe the off-season too. Let God do a work in your heart and your team by communing with Him.

Go:

1. Why do you think it would be impactful to start a prayer pocket with your team?

2. Who could you invite to join the prayer pocket team? What would be some important things to pray about?

3. When you look back at your last day with this team, what do you want to remember?

Workout:

  • Matthew 9:37-38
  • Matthew 26:41
  • Philippians 1:9

Overtime:

“Lord, when I think about starting a prayer pocket, I get nervous about what others would think. I become afraid. I know this is not how You want me to think. Lord, show me the way and who can join me in starting a prayer pocket with my team. In Jesus name, Amen.”
