STATIONS OF THE CROSS - EASTER PLAN

DAY 6 OF 14

VERONICA WIPES JESUS' FACE

The name Veronica comes from the words "vera icona," which mean "true image." The Catholic tradition tells the story of Veronica, because of the beautiful and merciful gesture she offered Jesus during His walk to His crucifixion in Calvary. She approached Him and dried the blood and sweat off of His face with a veil.

According to popular tradition, the image of Jesus' face was impressed into the veil. The fact that the story is not in Scripture does not necessarily mean it never happened. As John states in the New Testament, there are many things Jesus did that were not written down.

The story of Veronica reveals compassion, kindness, and sympathy. Her compassionate gesture shows that Jesus' heartbreak became her heartbreak. Jesus' suffering became her suffering. Our Lord Jesus is full of compassion. Where can you show more compassion?
