Thriving in Isolation

DAY 4 OF 6

WAIT ON GOD / PRACTICE LISTENING PRAYER

The practice of waiting on God in silence is often overlooked and even looked down upon. Throughout the scriptures, however, we see the commands to be still and wait on the Lord. Waiting on God is actively surrendering to his reign in your life. It is to acknowledge that he is the greatest portion in your life (Psalm 16) and if you don’t have him, you don’t have anything at all! Silence reminds us that he is God and that we are not (Psalm 46:10). Waiting reminds us that we truly have no control over any area of our lives.

The first time that you intentionally practice waiting on God may be very difficult. Remember, practice makes progress!

  • Do your SOAPS. Even though we are learning new tools each day, try not to get out of the habit of utilizing the old ones!
  • Make a list of all the things that are on your mind today. This might be questions for God, unknown things that you need wisdom on, or struggles you are having. As you write them down on the page, realize this is symbolic of you surrendering these questions to God and letting go.
  • Ask God to speak to you through the Word and the Holy Spirit’s illumination.
  • Read a section of scripture (it is beneficial in the Psalms to read up to a 'Selah' or a stanza) and then sit in silence for 5 minutes. As your mind begins to wander, take each thought and actively surrender it to Jesus (even writing it down if necessary).
  • Repeat this process until you feel like you are done.
  • Write down in your journal what you felt like the Lord showed you through the Holy Spirit’s ministering to your heart during your time in the Word.

About this Plan

Thriving in Isolation

Whether it is sickness, stage of life, or disaster that quarantines you to your home, isolation can be devastating. We are communal people made in the image of a communal God, but isolation can also be a gift. How do you spiritually grow and even thrive in isolation? How do you learn to spiritually self-feed?
