Love God Greatly: Risen

DAY 15 OF 40

It is hard to understand why God does what He does. It is difficult to understand why God would choose to judge or condemn “good” people. It is disheartening to think that God would choose to let some live with Him in eternity while others spend eternity apart from Him.

God’s holiness is beyond our comprehension. His character is more complex than we can understand. What we can cling to is the truth we find in His Word. God is a good God, who is always working for the good of His people (Romans 8:28). God cares for us and longs to be gracious to us (Isaiah 30:18). He also cannot be near sin (Isaiah 59:2). Our sinful nature has caused us to be separated from Him, yet even in our rebellion, He has provided a way for us to be reunited with Him (Romans 3:23-24).

We do not need to fear God’s judgment when we are in Christ. Christ has redeemed us, and through faith in Him, we have received His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). We will be judged by our deeds, but when our deeds are stamped with “faith in Christ” we can be confident that our eternity is secure.

Lord Jesus, thank You for taking my place. Thank You for bearing the judgment I deserved and for dying in my place. Help me to rest securely in Your saving work even though I do not fully understand Your character or actions. Amen.
