A Reading Plan for Moms for the New YearSample
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
So many times in a mom’s world, we lose our zeal. After all, in the day to day motherhood can be awfully mundane- cooking, cleaning, carpooling, breaking up fights between siblings, teaching children right from wrong- day after day, over and over again. It's easy to lose your zeal for life in general, but even more so with spiritual matters.
What's so spiritual about making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? What is the eternal value in changing 100 diapers a week? Is there any heavenly significance in driving to soccer practice? On their own, these things don't have a huge amount of value, but add all the duties of a mom's job together and multiply it over a child’s lifetime and there is SO much value.
You are exhibiting unconditional love for your child whenever you serve them, though you may never be served by them in return.
You are exhibiting unconditional love for your child when you give to them, whether you hear any “thank you" or not.
You are being the hands and feet of Christ when you show your children in a tangible way how God loves them.
It won't be a big jump for your children to believe that an unseen God loves them if all of their life they have known a mother who has served and loved them regardless of their behavior. A child can understand the concept of sacrificial love when they have witnessed it throughout their life through their mother's love.
Don’t forget, you are serving the Lord every day as you mother. Keep your spiritual fervor. God is watching and God will reward you for all of your labor.
Pray this today:
Remind me always that I am serving You as a mom, and my job is to glorify You in all that I do. Father, when my zeal is lacking, when I am tired and weary, wrap Your loving arms around me and whisper in my ear that You will provide me with what I need, when I need it. Thank you God, for taking care of me!
