Commitment - Re-Commitment

DAY 7 OF 7

Arnold Gamboa: Rest in God Today

A friend of mine posted one time on Facebook, “Three words that will ruin someone’s day—it’s Monday tomorrow!”

Can anyone relate? Maybe Monday is a symbol of work—hard work, or a cycle of tiring activities. Or seeing people that we don’t like to see. Or doing things that we don’t want to do. Whatever it is for you, Monday, (or any weekday)is tiring for most of us.

Thousands of years ago, God commanded the people of Israel to cease from their normal routine every seventh day. He commanded them to rest. He called it the Sabbath. That is probably the reason why we love weekends!

We need physical rest. But I would argue that we long for more than physical rest. We need more. We need spiritual rest. We need joy, not just happiness, peace, love, patience, hope. Physical rest can wait for the weekend. But spiritual rest we need everyday.

That is the beauty of what Jesus accomplished for us 2,000 years ago. The Bible says: Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest… God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This He did when a long time later He spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:6,7 NIV)

God can give you rest for your souls and He set a certain day for that. He called it TODAY. No need to wait for church on weekends. Today, you can come to Him.

Are you bothered by your past? God says I accept you and will forgive you. Pray for forgiveness TODAY. Do you have problems weighing you down? Call on Him TODAY. Are you afraid of the future or in a hopeless situation? He is your hope, He is your strength. He knows your future. He can give you peace. Call on Him TODAY. God is your Sabbath rest today.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that my soul can rest in you even in the midst of chaos. Show me how to trust you more today. In Jesus' name, amen.
