Commitment - Re-Commitment

DAY 2 OF 7

Prudy Verzo: Searching Before Committing

There was a phase in my youth when I did not know myself. I did not know my personality type. I didn't even know what I wanted in life and it was a quite frustrating time. Then in college I enrolled in psychology courses where there were a lot of 'knowing who I am’ exercises. Do you have such an episode in your life as well? Sadly, there are people, who in their old age do not know themselves. In that case, if they have bad practices, bad behaviors and bad character manifestations they do not know what to change to become better human beings.

Unless you recognize that you are sick, you will not seek for healing. Unless you know you are in trouble, you will not ask for help. Until you accept for yourself that you are a hopelessly bad person, (as  the Bible says, ‘no one is good, not even one,’) you will not desire for a change of heart.

You may have noticed that it is impossible to change by yourself. You will need an All Powerful Being, your Creator Himself to change you. BUT unless you search deep inside and realize that you have ‘grievous ways’, you will not need God!

Before you commit yourself to God you need a deep soul searching, as King David said in his prayer in our devotional verse today. Go search your heart, search your soul. Know who you really are by asking God to reveal it to you.

Prayer: O God, reveal to me who I really am, a person with an unfavorable and filthy heart. Reveal to me my real nature and give a longing in my mind for you because you alone can make me the person that you want me to be, in Jesus' name, amen!
