The Whisper of God: An Invitation to the Secret PlaceSample

Peekaboo! According to “whattoexpect.com,” the game Peekaboo, “stimulates baby’s senses, builds gross motor skills, strengthens visual tracking, encourages social development, and, best of all, tickles the baby’s sense of humor. Plus, peekaboo teaches object permanence: the idea that even though you can’t see something (like your smiling face), it still exists.”

Object permanence means that “the baby begins to understand that objects continue to exist, even when they cannot directly be seen, heard, or touched.”

As you are in a passionate pursuit after the Father, there is an unfolding invitation by Him to dive deeper into the realm of the Spirit. Peekaboo! He wants to reveal another layer of who He is to you! Peekaboo! He sometimes seems hidden, but it’s simply because He wants to give more of Himself to you! Peekaboo! Get ready; God is about to surprise you with His presence!

Proverbs 25:2 says that it is, “the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” It’s our glory to seek out what God has concealed. It’s a glorious scavenger hunt where we seek out the treasures in God’s heart! Stir yourself up in the spirit. Stir up your hunger. There is unspeakable joy in this pursuit! We are wholly satisfied in Him yet also insatiably hungry for more. Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled.” God promises to fill us to the overflow as we hunger after Him! 

In the game, Peekaboo, the pursuit of one another is extremely evident from the outside looking in. However, one of the two parties is unaware, at times, of the pursuit until the manifestation of what they are searching for comes forth. Don’t lose heart in the pursuit. God is wholeheartedly pursuing you. When the tangible presence of God lifts, it is an invitation to come deeper. Do not retreat and do not become stagnant. Don’t base your pursuit on feelings. Press in, wait, and tune your heart to the voice of Your Beloved! Even as a baby in a game of Peekaboo, laugh, enjoy, become consumed with wonder, and enjoy the Lord’s pursuit of you.

Prayer:

Jesus, I position my heart toward You. You are holy, and there is no one like You! I declare my ears are awakened to Your voice, and my spirit is sensitive to Your presence. Holy Spirit, help me to position myself in Your presence and to listen every time You call. I want to wake up to Your voice every morning and fall asleep to Your voice every night. In You, I live, move, and have my being! Thank you for strengthening me to lean into Your whisper and to run to the secret place. You are my refuge, my hiding place, and my ever-present help in times of trouble. I'm after Your heart! Amen.
