How Great Is Our God

DAY 7 OF 7

FRIENDS FOREVER

Elephants make fabulous friends. In an elephant herd, each seems to understand what the others are feeling. If one elephant is unhappy, the others will go to it and comfort it. Usually, this means chirping softly and putting their trunks in its mouth. It’s kind of a hug, elephant style. (Aren’t you glad we don’t hug that way?) If an elephant is hurt, the others will help it. And if one is threatened by a predator like a lion, the other elephants will form a circle around it and defend it. Elephants are such good friends that if they are separated— even for years— they remember each other and rush to “hug” when they see each other again.

Comforting each other, helping each other, and protecting each other— that sounds like a pretty awesome definition of friendship, whether you’re an elephant or not. Jesus said it this way: “Love each other as I have loved you.” That’s the secret to getting and keeping good friends. When a friend is hurting, offer comfort and hugs. If a friend needs help, go and help too! And if a friend is being attacked— by gossip, bullying, “frenemies,” or just a really bad day— stand up for your friend. Stick together. That’s what friends do. Pray for each other and share encouraging Scriptures from God’s Word. By the way, that’s what Jesus does for you. He’s your friend forever— and what could be greater than that?

How Great!

Elephants are the world’s largest mammal. They can use their trunk like a snorkel to swim, and they can charge at almost 25 miles per hour. They’re amazing animals. But there’s one thing elephants can’t do. Elephants can’t jump

Prayer

Lord, help me to love and comfort and stand up for my friends the way You love and comfort and stand up for me.
