How Great Is Our God

DAY 2 OF 7

RAIN OR SHINE

Extreme. It means that something is about as far from ordinary as you can get. Like deserts and rainforests. Deserts get less than 10 inches of rainfall a year. Hollywood movies show deserts as being hot and dry, with mile after mile of sand dunes— and sometimes they are. But deserts can also be rocky— or even icy and cold, like the deserts in the Antarctic and the North Pole.

Rainforests, on the other hand, get more than 75  inches of rain a year. Now, you’re probably thinking of tropical rainforests like the Amazon, but there are rainforests all over the world in places like Asia, Australia, and the United States. Rainforests are usually hot and humid— and filled with all kinds of plant and animal life.

Deserts and rainforests are extreme, but life can be extreme too. Some days are like being in a rainforest where you’re showered with good things. Other days feel more like a desert, without a drop of happiness in sight! And when you’re having a “desert” day, it’s really hard to understand why that kid who was so mean to you is getting showered with good things. But remember this: God loves every person, even those who don’t love Him back. Blessings might be His way of getting their attention so that they’ll learn to believe in Him. As for your “desert” days, God promises to use them for your good (Roman 8:28)— and that’s a pretty great blessing.

How Great!

The village of Mawsynram in India has the honor of being the wettest place in the world. It gets an average of more than 467 inches of rain every year! But the Dry Valleys in Antarctica are— you guessed it— the driest place on Earth, with an average annual rainfall of zero!

Prayer

Lord, I don’t understand why bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. But I do know You love me and You are always blessing me— rain or shine.
