Peace - Get off the Emotional Rollercoaster

DAY 6 OF 6

Let me tell you a personal story.

One summer, my family built a dream wall. We took the deepest dreams in our hearts and posted them on a wall. Mine ended up so big that I was kind of embarrassed. I didn’t want people seeing my dreams so my husband promised to take the dream wall down and put it away in hiding.

Two weeks later, we come home from a vacation. I walk into the living room and I see the dream wall in the same place where it was—right by the kitchen table where my daughter’s visitors could read it. I was mortified. I was livid with my husband. So much that I considered not going on our anniversary trip! I was not experiencing the presence of the Lord at that moment.

I came across this verse, “In the presence of the Lord is the fullness of joy,” and it pierced my heart. I called for the Lord and he told me, “You’ve opened the door to the evil one in your family. You’ve hurt your relationship.” So I apologized, made it right, and went on my anniversary trip.

But I should have seen those feelings and recognized the dashboard showing me that something inside of me was wrong. I should have popped the hood and done a heart check and said, “God, what do I not trust you with right now? What lie do I believe that’s allowed my emotions to become so rampantly out of control at this moment?” That’s what we need to do.

We’ve got to be constantly doing a heart check. Are we agreeing with the enemy or are we agreeing with God? Do I believe the world’s words or do I believe the word of God? Am I living out of my triggers or am I living out of God’s peace? Am I indulging my flesh or am I denying my flesh? Am I submitting to my feelings or am I agreeing with God and encouraging myself in the Lord and others? Do a heart check.

I pray today that you recognize that you have everything you need through Christ who strengthens you. I pray that you will put up with worldly emotions no more and choose to abide in the spirit of God and walk as Christ walked.

Day 5

About this Plan

Peace - Get off the Emotional Rollercoaster

“In the presence of the Lord is the fullness of joy.” Then why aren’t we joyful all the time? It’s because we still have this flesh and if we allow it, it can keep us in this emotional rollercoaster. This reading plan aims to help you get off this emotional ride by learning to walk and abide in Christ so you can live in the fullness of joy.
