Peace - Get off the Emotional Rollercoaster

DAY 2 OF 6

Let’s look at three men in the Bible.

First, we have David in 1 Samuel 30. He and his men had been out at war for a long time. They came home from war and they found everything they owned was gone. Their town was burned. Their wives and their children were completely gone. The men engaged their emotion. They wept with so much that they lost all of their strength. They became angry, and because they acted out of their emotions, they lost their peace. Their peace was stolen from them. You know how that feels.

Moses, in Numbers 20, was leading the people out of Egypt. The people wanted water so they started whining and complaining. God said, “Moses, you speak to that rock and you tell that rock to bring forth water.” Moses engaged his emotions. He was frustrated with the people. He got angry, and out of his emotions, he hit the rock. It cost him entrance into the Promised Land. He never got to finish the calling on his life because he abided by his emotions, not by the word of the Father.

Lastly, we’ll look at Cain. Cain and Abel were brothers. Abel gave his first fruits to God and it was pleasing to the Lord, but Cain just gave some of his offerings. Cain became angry and jealous. Then, out of that anger, he murdered his brother. When he engaged his worldly emotions, it cost him his family.  It cost him everything.

We all have been there. Think about this a second: what has it cost you to operate out of your emotions? Has it cost you your marriage? Has it cost you a friendship, your career, income, a client? What has it cost you when you’ve acted out of your emotions? Have you said hateful words that you can never take back? Maybe it cost you a relationship and that person died before you could get it resolved. What price are you willing to pay to continue to live by your emotions rather than the power of a living God that dwells in you?

God has given you everything you need to overcome your emotions and choose life. Let’s do this.

About this Plan

Peace - Get off the Emotional Rollercoaster

“In the presence of the Lord is the fullness of joy.” Then why aren’t we joyful all the time? It’s because we still have this flesh and if we allow it, it can keep us in this emotional rollercoaster. This reading plan aims to help you get off this emotional ride by learning to walk and abide in Christ so you can live in the fullness of joy.
