King David For You

DAY 5 OF 5

The real king rises

Preparation. Have you ever taken a test? Have you ever played in a sports match? If you wanted to do well, you probably had to study for that test and practice for that sport match. You did this because it required preparation.

In his reign as king, David was preparing for the king that would come after him. That king would be Jesus. At the time, David had no idea where his current work would later lead.

He was laying the groundwork for some good things to come.

David was a shadow of a promised King. What David did in the moment mattered.

The Lord declared to David that the Lord himself would establish a house for him, “When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”

Did you see that he is talking about Jesus here? Because of David’s faithfulness in his role as King, Jesus would descend from David and fulfill the promises God made to David.

What you are doing now matters! During your time on Earth, you may never see the result of your faithfulness. Sometimes it may feel lonely doing the right thing or that it doesn’t make a difference anyway. But, rest assured, it matters. One day when you spend eternity with Jesus, you will see just how much it mattered.

If you aren’t sure if you will spend eternity with Jesus, take a moment and think about who He is to you. Today you have the chance to accept him into your heart and start a relationship with Him! Like David, it is your heart that finds favor with God. Will you accept him into your heart today?
