Counting The Cost

DAY 19 OF 21

OBEDIENCE:

How is your relationship with God right now, in this moment? Are you thriving, struggling, or just going with the flow? Often, when we are struggling in our walk with the Lord, it is because of a lack of obedience to Him. We may know what the Bible says, but it hasn’t translated to our heart.

Eugene Peterson wrote a book years ago called A Long Obedience in the Same Direction. Our walk with the Lord is simply that. It is a day by day walk with God moving forward in the same direction. We have to wake up every day saying “God, today I am going to give everything to you.” When we obediently follow Christ, He directs our paths, and we find purpose and meaning in this chaotic world.

At times, when people think of the word obedience, they think of all the things they can and cannot do. Today I hope you will begin to think of it as things we get to do because we follow Jesus. Saying “Yes” to Jesus every day is the single best thing you can do in your life. When you choose to live for Him, obedience is no longer a list of rules, but it is a way of life because you want to be more like Him.

Action Point:

Obedience happens from simply saying yes to Jesus. When we say “YES” to Him we begin our loving relationship with Him and our loving relationship with others. Have you said yes to Jesus? If you have, do you obey Him out of obligation or out of love? Today simply ask this question, “Today what do I need to turn back over to God?”

Question(s):

What is keeping you from obeying God?

Where does my obedience to God come from?
