Can You See It? 

Today’s story is about Jesus and the Children found in Matthew 18:1-6. 

One afternoon on a bright and sunny day, the disciples were sitting around talking with Jesus. Just like we sometimes worry about who gets treated the best at home or school, the disciples were wondering that very same thing. “Hmm, so, Jesus,” they asked, scratching their heads, “Who’s the most important in the kingdom of heaven?” My guess is they were hoping Jesus would name one of them. 

Well, Jesus knew just what they were thinking and called a child over. “Stand beside me,” he said. Then he looked his disciples in the eyes and said the most amazing thing, “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” He said something even more amazing after that, “Whoever welcomes a little child in my name welcomes me.” Those are pretty powerful words and when Jesus said it, he meant it, because he only spoke the truth.

Jesus had a heart for justice. He always spent time with those who most people wouldn’t call famous, great or important. He cared for the poor. He showed compassion for the sick. He brought peace to those who were hurting. And he always loved spending time with children. As you read in today’s Bible story, he made you the standard for greatness in his kingdom. Pretty cool.

Can You Do It? 

Share God's message of grace, truth and justice with those around you.

Decide in your heart to always speak the truth.

Believe God loves you and can use you to do great things for his kingdom.

Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me and making me one of your children. Help me love and obey you. Help me love others the way you love me. I am sorry for my sins. Wash me clean. Jesus, I want to follow you as my Lord. Change me any way you want. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Make me an instrument of your grace, truth and justice.
