Think for a moment about your biggest mistake, your most embarrassing mess up, your greatest secret, your deepest shame. How does thinking about it make you feel? No matter how far away you are from it now, the minute you think about it, you probably feel the very same things you felt when it happened. Embarrassed, afraid, worried, confused, ashamed—they all come up as if it just happened. Perhaps in a spiritual sense, you even wonder if God could still love you after something like that. This is why the truth Paul shared here is so important.
For us as Christians, what Paul shared is incredibly valuable to know and remember as truth. We are not the sum of our mistakes. We are not meant to live in shame. We are so much more than that because of Jesus. And in Christ, there’s nothing we can do that will change that. Nothing can separate us from Him. And since that’s true for us spiritually, it can be the key to setting us free from the shame that our mistakes and mess-ups threaten to bring.
Take time to memorize this verse this week. Let the truth take root in your heart to remind you of what’s true of God’s love for you.

We’ll look at how a healthy identity rooted in who God is will keep us strong, vibrant, and grounded no matter what comes our way.
