Trusting in the Lord sure sounds nice, doesn’t it? As believers in Jesus, it’s part of the call on our lives. When we accept the gift of salvation, we’re putting our trust in God’s hands. We’re choosing to follow His path rather than our own. We believe that when we follow His plan, we trust Him with our life. And yes, all that is true! But actually putting that into practice in our lives? That’s not nearly as simple!
It’s a lot easier said than done. That’s where leaning not on our own understanding, as this proverb suggests, comes into play. If we try to trust God’s plan for our lives—a plan we can’t always see or understand—in our own strength, we’ll never be able to do it. But if we lean into God’s Spirit for help, we can slowly let go of the reins of our lives and hand them over to God, once and for all.
As we finish this series, spend time in prayer. Ask the Lord to help you trust His good and perfect plan for your life. Pray that you’ll see how you attempt to lean on your understanding or do things your way. Finally, ask God to help you release control over to Him and trust every aspect of who you are to Him.

Like a plant, our root system—our identity—is vitally important to our health. It’s how you see yourself in light of God, others, and the world. It’s what holds you when life changes, threatens, or causes you to question what’s true about you! We’ll look at how a healthy identity rooted in who God is will keep us strong, vibrant, and grounded no matter what comes our way.
