Lord! Why Do You Permit Such Evil?

GIORNO 11 DI 12

Waiting for God’s Judgment

“O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (Revelation 6:10)

The apostle John is describing his visions in the book of Revelation. He sees how the souls of those who were murdered for their faith, are in God’s presence. They ask God when He will finally avenge their blood and carry out His final judgment over humanity. They know that the Lord will do justice, but it takes so long.

Not only believers who are already in heaven, also those on earth are impatient for the completion of God’s Kingdom. They long for righteousness. Some people laugh at them, claiming that nothing ever really changes, and Jesus does not keep His promise to come back and judge the world. The apostle Peter corrects this view. God is not slow in doing what He promised, but He is patient since He does not want anyone to perish. He offers people time to repent and come to faith.

In John’s vision, the people in God’s presence are told “to rest a little longer” till the number of people killed for their faith is full. Till then, the injustice on earth will continue. But only to the extent God allows it to. He will not let evil reign forever.

Are you also eagerly waiting for God to put an end to sin and injustice?
