Hope 4 Today: Staying Connected To God In A Distracted CultureSýnishorn
Adopting Jewels
Tears spilled down her cheeks as she told me, “My mama gave me away. Why did she do that? Didn’t she love me?” This little girl was a child of the foster care system and by the age of eight had lived in nine homes. But today she was being adopted by her forever family. She was not only being adopted by a committed Christian family but by the family’s church. They, too, were dedicated to raising her to know Jesus. The local church was committed to helping the adoptive family because that’s what Christians do; they’re a united body.
The number of children in foster care in the United States is staggering. What if churches confronted the destruction of satan’s evils and started winning this battle of rejection? What if they were the hands of God’s redemption and grace on earth in a very powerful and real way? The government can’t fix the problem because it’s an issue of the heart, but Christians can. We know the Heart Surgeon, our Father who created our hearts and can mend them. He can also perform open heart surgery on us, allowing us to welcome a child into our lives. Is it painful and hard? You bet. Surgery is always painful, but the result is life.
Do you have a spare bedroom? A spare place in your heart? Consider whether God is asking you to adopt a child or assist someone in raising up a child for God’s kingdom.
