Old And New: Devotions From Time Of Grace MinistrySýnishorn
Christ is our Great High Priest now
You and I are sinners with needs just as great as anybody of Old Testament times. We can’t bridge the chasm between us and God any more than they could. But the need for human priests passed away with the coming of the Great High Priest, Jesus Christ. His great work on Calvary offered the One Sacrifice. No more are needed.
“Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God” (Hebrews 10:11,12).
By joining together God and man in himself, Christ is still our Priest now and always. He still mediates between holy God and sinful people, providing that critically important bridge between earth and heaven. He still intercedes for us, reminding his Father that there is no more condemnation for those who believe in him. He still guarantees that all your prayers are received, heard, and answered at the very throne of God.
And get this--he invites all believers to think of themselves as his assistant priests, bringing the mercy of God to fearful and troubled people in their lives.
