Great Reward: Enoughness of Jesus
My dad asked me a question a few years ago that has greatly impacted my life. “Tim, is Jesus alone enough for you?” In more words, is Jesus’ love, providence, grace, power, wisdom, and Kingdom enough to satisfy my most core spaces and daily needs?
Here’s my answer: NOPE. I wanted to give him the answer that I knew was the correct Christian response, but I couldn’t. I wanted to say, “Of course Dad. Jesus alone is enough for me,” but it just wouldn’t come out. I know what the right answer is and could biblically give you a reason for the hope that lay’s within my cognitive theology, but Houston we have a problem.
For the first time ever, I had to admit something that no “Christian” wants to admit. Jesus alone is not enough for me. There, I said it! I want Him to be, but by the sheer evidence of my daily life, I assure you that I do not live as though this were true. I began to daily ask Jesus to show me all of the places that I substitute other things/idols for Him. We started out with my blinding worry and then into my crippling fears. Is Jesus enough to handle these things or is He not? Is Jesus enough to handle your stuff? Either He is or He isn’t.
I mentioned before about the incurable cancer (other than the hand of God) that I daily walk with. I’m learning that for me to live is Christ and to die is gain, but what about for my wife and kids? I am beginning to trust Jesus to be enough in my cancer story, but what about the potential wreckage that my death would have on my kids? Would Jesus still be enough for them in the midst of their loss?
How does this play out in your story?
Let’s daily ask Jesus to reveal His “enough-ness” in our lives and the lives around us.

About this Plan
Fueled by his earnest love and desire for Jesus, California-based worship leader, songwriter and blogger Tim Timmons draws upon scriptural and personal resources in his 7-day Reading Plan for The Overflow Devo on YouVersion. As with his music, Timmons’ sole objective is to draw people into the awakening movement of Jesus Christ. Consistent with the theme of his Reunion Records debut album, “Cast My Cares,” Timmons explores not only what it means to believe in Jesus, but also what it looks like when we choose to truly follow Him.
