What exactly is the Word of God?

If you had to answer the question: What is the ‘Word of God?’ then you might put the Bible first under that name.

And that is correct, because the Bible is a collection of what God has said and done. But it is more than a history book.

What is in the Bible is still relevant today and that’s why it’s also called the living Word (Hebrews 4:12). And that living Word is also a Person, namely Jesus (John 1:1-4)

Revelation 19:13
‘He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.’

So the Word is the Bible and the living God, Who lives in you. It isn’t static. It moves.

If the Word is living, that means it is active and has an effect on lives. That is how the Word gives eternal life: you have believed the Word and confessed with your heart that Jesus is Lord and Savior, which has saved you. That salvation ensures that you can live in an intimate relationship with God forever (eternal life).

The Word has made you free from the law and the power of sin and therefore given you complete redemption. It made you a child of God, a ‘temple’ of the Holy Spirit, through which the Word lives in you. It feeds you, It sets you free, and gives you life! The ‘true’ life (1 John 5:12).

Isn’t that special?

That the Word of God includes so much?

We as believers have direct access to God thanks to the Word. Through Jesus, and because He speaks to us directly through the Word. He tells us who we are in Him and Who He is in us, what He has done for us, how He looks at us, and what He desires of us. All answers to all life questions are in His Godly Word. And His Word is forever, it never changes! (Isaiah 40:8)
