The coming of John the Baptist was a preliminary step in the establishment of the "KINGDOM OF GOD” on earth. Throughout the course of events, we encounter some things or circumstances that we might consider "odd” or difficult to understand with our feeble human minds. After all, these are spiritual aspects that we often cannot understand from the human perspective of life. In order to understand God’s perspective, we must have the faith and light which only the HOLY SPIRIT imparts to those who humble themselves and approach God, through a life lived according to His will, as it is expressed in the Gospel. The miracle of the birth of John the Baptist reminds us of Abraham and Sarah, who – through a similar miracle – gave birth to Isaac, the son of the promise, a foreshadowing of what was to happen with the advent of JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God, on this earth. Even though an angel of God brought him the news that he and his wife would receive a son, Zechariah doubted it and asked for a sign from God. God reacted to this lack of faith and from that very moment, Zacharias lost the ability to speak until the birth of the promised child. Zechariah's decision to name the child John was an act of obedience. Although it did not fit tradition and the culture of the times, Zechariah obeyed GOD and went ahead with this step, which was a waiver of human customs. He finally understood that when GOD calls you to a mission, you are not the one naming the terms; He is.
Even today, GOD is ready to work with us, exceeding our expectations. However, fewer and fewer people are ready to give up their daily comfort and pay the price. Often, this price is the courage to be different than the majority that surrounds us. This is sometimes the reason why more people who could have a great impact on the salvation mission are lacking!
