Prepare the Way: A 21-Day Reading Plan Through John by Justeina BrownleeSýnishorn
Day 1: Come and See
Read John 1
In John 1, we see Jesus extend a simple but powerful invitation: “Come and see.” It’s the same invitation He gives to us today, just as He did to His first disciples. Jesus wasn’t just inviting them to a place; He was inviting them into a journey of discovery—an opportunity to get to know Him personally.
When Andrew and another disciple started following Jesus, He didn’t lay out a detailed plan or give them all the answers. He just said, “Come and see.” It’s an open invitation for us to get closer to Him, to see what He’s doing, and to learn who He truly is.
Later, Andrew brings his brother, Simon Peter, to Jesus, and Philip invites Nathanael. When Nathanael doubts whether anything good can come from Nazareth, Philip responds, “Come and see.” This invitation leads Nathanael to encounter Jesus for himself, changing his life.
Jesus’ invitation still stands today. He’s calling us to step out of our routines and preconceptions and to get closer to Him. It’s not about having all the answers or being perfect—it’s about being willing to follow and see where He leads.
Reflection Questions:
- How can you make space in your daily life to “come and see” what Jesus has for you?
- Who in your life needs an invitation to experience Jesus? How can you extend that to them?
