Dare to Be Weak

DAY 7 OF 8

Boasting

“If I must boast, I will boast of the things that concern my weakness” (2 Corinthians 11:30).

We humans usually prefer to show others our best side. Fear, shyness, insecurities or inabilities we prefer to hide. In our world, there seems to be no place for weakness and powerlessness. Fortunately, with Jesus it is the other way around. Do you sometimes feel defeated by the pain, sorrow, illness or persecution you suffer? Do you sometimes feel unable to find the strength to keep believing? Don't try to hide that from Jesus. He will never reject you or cast you aside because you lack strength. On the contrary, He delights in filling your emptiness.

Paul kept going because of Jesus' resurrection power; that power shone through Paul's weakness. And in that strength he found joy and courage to persevere. Paul was quite willing to 'glory' in his weakness. Not to show how many difficulties he had, or to evoke pity. He dared to show his weakness because he knew who he was: God's beloved child, held up by Jesus' strength. And the fact that God wanted to be present in Paul's life made his life full of power, despite his limitations.

Prayer:Thank You Father, that I can be honest about my limitations without fear. Thank You that I never have to be more than I can be. Thank You that I may live in the power of Your resurrection and that You will take me into Your service as I am.

About this Plan

Dare to Be Weak

Most people don't like to feel weak. Physical and mental strength are reassuring because they give us the feeling of being in control of our life. But unfortunately, every person faces weakness from time to time. How does that work in the life of a follower of Jesus? Paul, a believer we meet in the Bible, has something to say about that. We are going to listen to his thoughts in this reading plan.
