In the Hospital? Comfort and Encouragement for You

DAY 5 OF 7

Praying for Healing

If you’re in the hospital, you have something that needs medical attention and healing. It’s likely to be a process that may last a while. It might require surgery, strong medicine, radiation, or physical therapy. You might need to learn how to use parts of your body again or how to adapt to new lasting circumstances. Regardless of the specifics, asking God for help with all stages of your healing is a very good place to start.

When our bodies are hurting, it affects our frame of mind and colors everything else about our lives. So we don’t only need physical healing, we need renewed health for our minds and spirits too.

Like you, King David in the Bible needed healing for both body and soul. He prayed for it like this:

Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint; heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in deep anguish. How long, LORD, how long? Turn, LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. Psalm 6:2-4 NIV

That unfailing love is why Jesus didn’t just heal people’s bodies; He welcomed them as whole human beings and spoke to them about the kingdom of God. Jesus offers us eternal healing for our souls as we follow Him and give Him our lives and hearts.

Of course we want full healing of our bodies here and now, and we’re told to ask for it in James 5. Today’s Scriptures will help you pray for healing. But whether God gives it to us now or later, we will for sure see full victory in the end. God promises that eventually He will wipe away every tear and take away all pain and darkness—when He makes everything new.

A Place to Start in Prayer

Jesus, have mercy on me. Please touch my body, mind, and spirit, and heal me completely. Knit all the parts of my body back together again just as they should be. Rid me of all infection and illness. I’m looking to You in faith right now to be everything I need to get through this. You are the one I praise as I wait for Your full healing.

Come quickly and act on my behalf, please, Lord. You are where I place all my hope. Renew my trust moment by moment. Thank You that in You I will have the final victory. I trust Your timing and plans. In Your name above all names, Jesus, amen.

More for You

While you’re focusing on healing and waiting for better days, here are some worship songs to lift your spirits and help you refocus on the power of God in your life. You might find one of these three particularly encouraging:

From “Life to Me”

Every breath I take is from You
Hope is running through my veins
Filling up my heart with joy unending
Love is resurrecting me

From “As You Are”

If you’re lonely, longing for someone to hear you
If your burdens feel like more than you can bear
If you’re searching for a place to just be honest
Come just as you are

From “New Future”

I’ve been resurrected
These dry bones arise
I have a new future
And my future is life
