Measure Your Progress
You have developed a plan that integrates your vision, values, and strengths. This plan includes specific goals and milestones. It takes your strengths and talents into account, as well as possible liabilities. These aren’t things you have to do; rather, these are things you get to do. Now, you can begin taking steps toward your goals. Remember, these are not only specific, attainable, and relevant to your goals, but also measurable and time-bound. What does this imply?
Imagine that one of your goals is to become more fit, so you’ve decided to train to participate in a race in the coming year. Your action steps can include selecting a local race and deciding on a training program. You can measure your progress by calculating the time it takes you to run specific distances, or by how many days you’ve stuck to your training program. Your deadlines—the time-bound aspects of your plan—are the dates by which you will complete each task. How quickly will you decide on a race? When will you start your training?
Regularly review your progress. Reflect on experiences, learn from them, and adjust your goals as necessary to stay aligned with your vision and purpose. Commit to lifelong learning and growth.
The journey to becoming a Vintage Gentleman is ongoing. Embrace every experience, both successes and failures, as opportunities to learn and grow. Seek wisdom from others. Learn from mentors, books, or life experiences. As Proverbs 9:9 states, “Instruct the wise, and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous, and they will add to their learning.”
Understand your ultimate Calling. Your identity and talents find their highest expression in service to others. Whether through your family, community, or broader societal contributions, live a life that seeks to uplift and inspire. Your legacy will be defined by the positive impact you make on others. The way you face successes and setbacks speaks volumes. How does the person you want to become deal with triumphs and failures? Your commitment to growth and transformation can be a worthy example to those around you.
God, give me wisdom as I pursue the path of becoming the man You want me to be. Transform my character to be like Christ’s. Help me in this journey toward a new identity as a Vintage Gentleman.
