9 Days of Gratitude and ThankfulnessSýnishorn
The Lord Is the Only True God
The beginning of Jeremiah 10:10 says, “But the Lord is the only true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King!” Let’s praise God for this marvelous Truth! What a blessing it is that we can rest assured that our God is the Only God!
The First Commandment says, “You shall have no other gods before me,” God gave this Commandment because He knows He’s the Living God, and He also knows that it’s our human bent to put people, things, job titles, etc., in front of Him.
When we shift the center of our identity from who we are in Christ to our job titles, relationship status, size of our house or car, or size of our bank account, we make these things the god of our lives.
When we put God above everything else, we see the blessings we never would have seen otherwise, as we’ve aligned ourselves with God’s Will and not our own. When we put other things first, we are out of line with His Will and miss the Abundant Life He’s promised us.
How thankful we can be as we experience Him as the True God! When we put our faith into practice and make God the highest in our lives, we start to see the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.
We can’t help but be thankful as we see God’s Transformation in our lives as we trust in Him:
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
Praise God for changing our lives and making us more and more like Jesus!
Father, thank You for being our God. Thank You for the Abundant Life that You give. We give You all praise, glory, and honor because You Alone are worthy! Please help us to stay focused on You and to put aside anything in our lives that we let rank higher than You! Gently remind us with Your Spirit that You Alone are God! Amen!
Journal Writing/Prayer Prompt:
Have you identified idols in your life—children, money, job titles, relationship status, etc.? What steps are you taking or have you taken to prevent these idols from taking a foothold in your heart?
Reflect on and journal about how God has helped you overcome these situations and put Him first.
