The Purpose of Christmas

DAY 6 OF 15

Peace doesn’t always feel possible, does it? It’s not always easy to live at peace with our spouses, our families, our coworkers, our friends, or even our small groups. And in a season that’s supposed to be all about peace on earth, that peace feels all the more impossible when life feels anything but peaceful. The good news is that we don’t have to figure out how to live out this call from the writer of Hebrews on our own. We don’t have to do it on our own at all! Why? Because God has already done it for us.

God sent Jesus to make peace possible for all of us. God sent Jesus to bring peace to earth. And because of the peace Jesus brought to the world thousands of years ago, we can trust that following this call—the call to make peace possible as far as it’s up to us—is possible. We can look to the life and example of Jesus to start, but we can also trust God’s Spirit at work in us to choose peace at any time, in any moment, under any circumstance.

What makes peace feel impossible to you? Maybe it’s a person you struggle with, a situation you’re in, or just a disappointment in the season you’re in. Whatever it is, take it to God, asking Him to help you live in and share the peace Jesus brought to earth.

About this Plan

The Purpose of Christmas

With all that noise telling us what Christmas should be about, it can be difficult to get to the point—to the heart of Christmas. That’s why, in this devotional, we’ll work to cut through the noise and discover the real meaning behind the season. We’ll look at what brings real joy and purpose in this holiday. We’ll unpack the incredible story behind the birth of Jesus Himself to understand what the purpose of Christmas really is.
